THE RELIABLE AND VERSATILE ERGOCYCLE
Functional diversity
The Biodex Upper Body Cycle is a versatile ergometer that meets the requirements of any orthopedic, cardiac, sports medicine, wellness or general conditioning program. It will exercise people with limited lower body function, help rehabilitate a wide variety of patients in the shoulders, back, neck, wrists and elbows, and give healthy athletes a grueling workout.
Unique self-feeding system
Use the upper body cycle anywhere. There is no need for alternating current at working rates greater than or equal to 30 watts and 50 rpm. The battery-powered system retains all settings and LED displays before and after cycling. The internal battery recharges automatically when working rates reach or exceed 30 watts and 50 rpm. An AC adapter is provided for extended use at working rates below 30 watts and 50 rpm.
User-friendly
The "Quick start" function allows your novice cyclists to get started on their exercises. Isokinetic (speed control) provides adequate resistance over the rider's full range of motion for the duration of the exercise period. Resistance continuously matches effort, adjusting to variations in patient strength due to weakness or pain at specific points in the individual's range of motion, and fatigue during of the cycling period. With a selection of 15 speeds (50 to 120 degrees / sec), this resistance mode maximizes strength gains while minimizing the risk of injury.
Retro-cycling all functions
Rehabilitation and conditioning capabilities are extended by providing bi-directional cycling to alternately work reciprocal muscle groups.
Designed for high usage environments
Heavy gauge welded steel frame, epoxy powder coated finish and moisture resistant ABS plastic housing complete a rugged and durable design that will stand up to heavy use in the busiest environments. Large wheels facilitate transport and repositioning. Heart rate monitoring can be performed with a telemetric chest strap to track heart rate without interrupting exercise - useful for protocols using target heart rate and for monitoring high risk patients.
Upper body rehabilitation, strengthening and conditioning for all shoulder, back, neck, wrist and elbow patients.
Warm Up: Provides an excellent warm up before all upper body exercises.
ACL: Allows patients with early stage ACL to perform cardiovascular activities.
Throwing Athlete: Place patient next to UBC in a 90 ° / 90 ° position and rotate internally / externally against bidirectional isokinetic resistance.
Carpal tunnel syndrome: Excellent warm-up before activities.
Wheelchair patients: The low seat height makes it easy to transfer from the wheelchair or the seat can be fully removed to allow exercise while still in the wheelchair. The adjustable swivel actuator easily adapts to all wheelchair patients.
Radial Head Fracture: Start the patient with the actuator set in the low position, thereby decreasing elbow flexion. As the ROM increases, lift the actuator to increase the elbow extension.
Lumbar Sprain / Strain: Begin with the patient seated against the back of the seat providing lumbar support, progress to the front edge requiring more lumbar stability, then stand in a neutral spine which requires full lumbar stabilization.
Rotator Cuff Repair: Begin immediately with ROM shoulder exercises below 90 degrees of shoulder flexion.
Total Hip and Knee Arthroplasties: Cycle of the upper body to prevent deconditioning of the elderly patient.
Cardiac patients: Allows the use of smaller muscle groups and strengthening of the chest muscles after open heart surgery. Maintains cardiovascular health in patients with debilitating injury or paralysis of the lower extremities.
